Kentucky political mail rules for 2027. An open governor's race, and one disclaimer rule.
Kentucky elects a governor and six other statewide officers on 2 November 2027, after primaries on 18 May. The governor's seat is open: the incumbent is term-limited. Every circular, handbill and sample ballot in those races falls under one statute, KRS 121.190.

- What it covers
- Newspaper and magazine ads, posters, circulars, billboards, handbills, sample ballots, paid TV and radio and similar political advertising. KRS 121.190(1)
- The wording
- "Paid for by" followed by the name and address of the individual or committee that paid. KRS 121.190(1)
- Candidate committees
- When a candidate, slate or campaign committee pays, the piece is identified only by "paid for by" and the name, with no address. KRS 121.190(1)
Two versions of one rule.
Paid by a group or person
"Paid for by" followed by the name and address of the individual or committee.
Paid by the campaign
"Paid for by" followed by the candidate's, slate's or campaign committee's name only.
Sample ballots included
The rule names sample ballots and circulars explicitly, so a party or group sample ballot carries the line too.

A short line, a full record
Kentucky's campaign disclaimer can be just a name. A tap adds the committee's filing behind that name, without crowding the piece.
Statewide reach
A governor's race mails statewide. Taps by ZIP code show where each drop landed and where look-alikes appeared.
Same terms for every side
Every party, candidate and committee gets the same product on the same price list.

What disclaimer does Kentucky require on political mail?
"Paid for by" followed by the name and address of whoever paid. When a candidate, slate or campaign committee pays, only "paid for by" and the name are required (KRS 121.190(1)).
Do Kentucky sample ballots need a disclaimer?
Yes. KRS 121.190(1) lists sample ballots alongside circulars, handbills and posters.
When are Kentucky's 2027 elections?
Primaries on 18 May 2027 and the general election on 2 November 2027, for governor and six other statewide offices.
Why doesn't Kentucky mail say "I approve this message"?
That wording comes from federal rules for broadcast ads in federal races. Kentucky's state races use the paid-for-by line in KRS 121.190.
